Solved Gateway DX4860 tower has steady alarm and dos not boot from

June 17, 2016 at 19:56:45
Specs: Windows 7, Intel Core i3 2120
Client's tower seems to boot to BIOS but does not continue to Win 7 OS. Long continuous "beep". Nothing shows now on screen, was showing BIOS but not now. Screen notice say "No signal". Graphics adapter built on MB and only one open exp. slot and that is for PCI Express mini card. Any thoughts? I'm thinking MB graphics is dead. Client say it just quit displaying a few days ago after being shut down for the weekend. Screen is known good one in my shop.

My first thought was (is) keyboard... Check with another (known to be good) keyboard.

You mentioned "client" & "shop" - are you in the computer repair business?

"Graphics adapter built on MB and only one open exp. slot and that is for PCI Express mini card"

I did a search for the motherboard used in the Gateway DX4860 & the one I found has one PCIe x16 slot & three PCIe x1 slots. If that's correct & you're saying there's only one slot available, what's in the other slots? Try removing & reseating the RAM & any cards that are installed. Pop them in & out of their slots a few times to insure good contact.
