Specs: Windows 7, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz with 4 gigs of Ram
I have 4 gigs of memory on this Nvidia Motherboard and would like to know if I install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 will my processor run at 64 bits? I have PhotoShop CS5 and InDesign CS4 and also Nikon's Capture NX2. I am not sure if NX2 will run on a 64 Bit Operating System but I don't want to purchase any new software so if it doesn't I wont install the 64 Bit Windows 7. Will my processor handle 64 bits? I appreciate your help.

It will help if you tell us what type of CPU you have. As a general rule newer processors are 64-bit.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz and it is only a year or so old so it should run at 64 bits....right? Thanks much

It will run 64bit windows 7 (I am running it on E2160 pentium dual core without problems). Windows 7 64bit will run any program that will also run on windows 7 32bit and nearly everything that will run on Vista. Older XP programs may not run though, but it usually is worth a try using XP compatibility mode ((note: Utility programs must be designed for Windows 7)) for most of them.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thank you for your help....sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I just need to determine if InDesign CS4 and Nikon Capture NX2 will run without problems on a 64 bit OS. I am also running PhotoShop CS5 but I believe it is good to go. I have read that you need to be sure you have all of the drivers for your software and hardware before you change to 64 bit. Thanks again.
