Files won't delete properly windows 7

Specs: Windows 7
When I delete a file (any file) in Windows Explorer 7, the file's icon stays where it is. I have to re-open the folder to see that the file has been deleted. Is this normal??

If you have a shortcut on the desktop (or anywhere else) to a file in another location, deleting the file does not remove the shortcut, it's up to you to delete it.
However if you try to open a deleted file from the short cut, you will get a Windows message telling you the file does not exist or not found and will offer to delete it.

Thanks for your reponse.
I checked again and each time I had deleted a file, I deleted it from the Libraries Folder in Win7. This folder is really just a folder full of shortcuts, it seems. Deleting a file via this folder does work, but the icon remains visible until you refresh the folder.

Deleting a file from its actual location does work as expected.
