You do realise that the factory reset routine will wipe/erase all your personal files in the process. So if not too late even now, copy all those "precious files" to external media - typically to DVD first; and check they are accessible too on another working system. Then consider if you really need to factory reset; as there maybe other options to consider - clean up routines etc... which may remove the need to factory reset...?

You hold down the zero key while turning it on. If that doesn't work you must not have a restore partition. They included that partition from about mid 2007 on so if yours is older--or it doesn't have the original hard drive--then you're outta luck.

If it doesn't have recovery partition, all is not lost... You can use your current Windows key to re-install etc. using any disk that is the same type of installation as is yours - i.e. OEM or Retail whichever is your.

You can legally duplicate a disk (cd/dvd) and use that; and also download an ISO which then burn to a dvd and use that.

You ought to have a sticker on the case (somewhere) that has the current/valid key on it. Make a careful note/record of that key and keep it safe somewhere - for future references
