Specs: Windows 7, 16 GB
Hello everyone, I just want to check with you experts if this is normal, my computer is running fine, but what I have noticed is that the explorer.exe is using 2,517,084 k of my RAM.

At the moment, I am running an apple imac 27, on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, 16GB RAM, i7 intel processors. At the moment I have open - photoshop, which has taken 5,3GB of memory, and 3 pages on Google chrome.

Looking in the windows task manadger, I also notised that there are at least 8 - chrome.exe*32, and each is taking up around 112MB, is that ok? and why is the explorer.exe sucking up so much RAM?

I really look forward to your replys guys, thank you in advance!!

Mine is using 12,656 K of System RAM at the moment.

I opened XPmode and explorer.exe splitted up and started using 5,672 K each.

I closed XP mode and explorer.exe dropped to one instance only, taking up 9082 K.

EDIT: Mine is W7 x64 with 4G RAM and onboard gfx.

Your explorer.exe memory usage is over 2 GB and that is not normal. In a 32 bit OS that wouldn't even be possible. But with a 64 bit OS and 16 GB RAM it is very possible.

I suspect the problem is a misbehaving explorer extension or malware.

Considering that you have 16 GB RAM chrome memory usage seems unusual but not necessarily a problem.

The only way to be sure is to do a clean install from OEM media and run a baseline test. No one ever does that.

Seems a bit high on ram but you may have all sorts of stuff running both legit and maybe not legit.
