Explorer hangs on WIN 7 while browsing files

September 5, 2011 at 02:13:01
Specs: Windows 7, I5 2400M
Win 7 64bit hangs while browsing files and folders on both partitions of my drive. I have recently bought a new Acer n53 laptop with a fresh copy of WIN 7 home premium and copied some of my old files which were all running great under win XP SP 3. Now when I'm accessing any of the folders on any partition after a minute or 2 of just browsing through folders explorer stops responding and restarts. It happens every time.

1. I have tried removing software which I recently installed, all of which should be compatible with 64bit win 7.

I removed
- Avira
- Ad Aware
- Mozy backup

I'm left with
- Thunderbird
- Firefox
- CCleaner
- Best Player
- Peer Block
- U torrent
- Chrome
- Auto Shutdown

I don't see a point in removing any more of the software listed above as I don't see direct connection with the occuring problem.

I also:

- Checked for viruses with Avira, Ad Aware
- Run Checkdisk on both partitions (system/data)

all to no avail.

Please help me

are the files you are browsing Pictures of Videos by any chance?

i had this problem when i was using XP Pro SP3. if i can remember correctly my issue was down to some missing codec or divx. everytime i opened a folder with pictures of videos explorer would hang and windows shell will restart. annoying!!

Hope you figure it out mate.

The issue was caused by Asus Web Storage service. After uninstalling the machine's working fine.
