Specs: Windows 7
For Windows 7, is there a list of the 'Details' available in the Windows Explorer folder view called 'Details' which has an explanation for each of them? Most of them are simple but some leave me scratching my head.

The "Details" which are available are those you see when a list of files is in "Details" view (as opposed to "Icons" or "Tiles" views.

In "Details" view, depending on which column categories you have enabled, you are shown such things as filesize, file-date, filetype etc. If you then right-click any column header, you can choose to hide or show more information columns.

I can't see how any of that can leave you scratching your head as it's no different to previous versions of Windows in that respect.

Thanks for the reply, phill22.

depending on which column categories you have enabled, you are shown such things as filesize, file-date, filetype etc.

You're right, of course, but my question is not about the functionality of the interface, nor is it about how to show or hide any individual Detail.

Let's assume I right-clicked one of those column headings, and chose "More..." from the bottom of the context menu. The resulting popped-up window, in which you may choose one or more additional Details, is not resizable nor copyable, so it's impossible to easily see the entire list, except by scrolling through and typing them all out manually. Hence the first part of my question, which I will now rephrase:

Is there a LIST of ALL POSSIBLE "Details" in Windows 7?

I also know that possible "Details" for a file are collectively called "metadata", and metadata seems to be filetype-sensitive. For example, one can easily assume that metadata for the F-stop setting of a camera-captured image applies only to camera-captured images. It's also true that some metadata applies to ALL file types, such as "created", "filesize", "last accessed", etc. Common sense seems to indicate the function of most of these metadata, but the purpose of some of them escape me.

Therefore, what I'm looking for is a list of ALL POSSIBLE "Details" in Windows 7, that includes explanations of the function of each (preferably with example of a valid "value"), and the filetypes for which each is applicable.

Hope that clears up any confusion-
And thanks again for the reply, I appreciate it.

Cheers
