Specs: Windows 7
I got this message that my hard drive reported a smart event and that a hard drive might fail. Can I test it to see what I need to do?

1st step, make sure you have your important stuff, including your emails & address book are backed up.

Best way is to remove the drive & connect it to another comp.

Before you do any testing make sure you have got a copy of any data that you cannot afford to lose. Generally speaking, if the SMART flag has been tripped then that is enough indication that your harddrive is going to fail soon and the last thing you want is a drive failing suddenly.

Once you have backed up your data you can get drive diagnostic programs from the drive manufacturer's website, or some systems, like Dell, have their own diagnostic programs.
