A monitor only requires a power cord & video-in. Without knowing the make/model of your computer or monitor, it's pretty difficult to answer. Here's what the 3 most common "video-out" ports look like - HDMI, analog VGA, DVI. Only use one.

There will only be one DVI connection on the screen/monitor, and that will be 'DVI in'. The cable from there needs to connect to the matching connector on the back of your computer, which will be 'DVI out - though it may not be marked as such.

If your computer hasn't got a connector the same as the one on the screen you will probably find it has a smaller VGA connector (the middle one in the picture riider has linked to) so you need to either get an adapter for the screen/monitor end, or see if it has a VGA connector as well as DVI.
