Specs: windows 7, 2800/1gb
Hi,
Just the other day my niece tried to play a dvd on my laptop. The dvd was stucked inside so i had to open the drive with the paperclip.
Next thing that i know its the noise from the dvd drive. Then i tried to reboot to solve the problem but the laptop was stucked as well. What i did is i entered in bios , putting dvd disabled to can have access to my laptop. Then again i reboot with the dvd drive enabled, but this time no noise came neither the litlle light from the drive.I tried many sollution but with no positive results. So, the dvd drive icon its on my computer, device manager says its all ok , when i tried to open from button nor right click menu wont eject it.(saying an error occurr while ejecting dvd).
Short way: the dvd drive looks dead , no noise , no light. Is the dvd drive dead or is something i still could do to repair it?
Thank you !
Emil

sounds dead to me, lots of noise then nothing, you could try removing it from the machine and then reboot without it, plug it all back while machine is off and reboot, if it works then great if not buy another they are so very cheap.

but cant help myself....

I did what you said but still its dead...gonna check for new one.Only one thing i am afraid that the new one to be so silent like this one ,that the problem to be in somehting else.I will give a try anyway. Thanks for your answer!

I went today to buy a new one .I find that its quiet expensive 50 euro(the cheapest one and not entirely like mine).Still bothers me why there is no electricity , no light .Maybe its something to do with ide controllers, drivers?
Thanks!

you will know as soon as you plug in the new one, if it works fine, then you know your other is dead, if it doesnt work, take back the new one and get a refund.
just say it does not work in your machine..
i would think the ide controller is fine as your machine see's the drive is connected but cannot get it to work, and you had lots of noise then nothing..sounds pretty dead to me.
