Downloading only ZIP Files in Windows 7

August 21, 2010 at 13:26:05
Specs: Windows 7
So I have always been able to download files and they were always in the format as zipped files, which is what I want them to be at. Lately though, when I try to download a file, it will only let me open it and when I do it is not a zipped file. The download box said that it is downloading the file to the temporary folder so I am not sure if that is the problem or what. Anyways, if anyone can help tell me what I have to do to be able to download files in the zip format and be able to save them and not just open them, I would greatly appreciate it.

Depending on what and where you're downloading, the format will be whatever is on the server, not always zip. Maybe a little more information (about what it is you're trying to download) is in order...

I am downloading ojbects for my sims 2 game. I have downloaded things before and from the same website I am trying to download from now, but now it won't come up as a zip file. The website says when you download, "Download this in a zip file." So when I go to download it doesn't come up as a zip file or save it anymore though, it will only let me open it as a file that isn't a zip file.

Maybe the site changed the compression format they use. What is the file extension now?

It still says it is a zip file and I have tried other sites and they said they are zip files and I still have the same problem.

AliciaLoreen, what browser are you using?
Did you switch from IE to firefox?
If so, that may be your problem.
IE will give you all options.
