Downloaded file doesn't work (not a valid win32 application)

Toshiba Satellite c655-s5082 laptop

Specs: Windows 7, 1GB
It has been several time that I have come across with this problem. After completing the download of software and when I try to run in my system it displays a message as "C:\User\user\file is not a valid win32 application". I even tried to re-download the file for three or four times as per the help from Google search, but the message displays same. I even tried to visit different site like filehippo (which someone from here suggested me), brothersoft and soft82 etc, so anyone please help me with this problem.

So what is the file you are trying to download... that information will assist the helpers here.

Yeah, your question is useless if you don't tell us what you're trying to download. But it sounds like it may be an old 16-bit (DOS?) program.

What the first two responses refer to is the fact your processor and Windows version are both 64 bit.

64 bit Windows can't install any 16 bit programs or any 32 bit program that uses a 16 bit installer.

There is probably nothing wrong with the download, your computer just can't use it.

The files you are trying to download are NOT compatible with your computer. It is as simple as that.

If you provide a link to an example we can verify that.

The messages you are getting have nothing to do with how the files are downloaded.
