Solved DOS based data base program won't run on SOME WIN 7 PRO PCs.

Specs: Windows 7 pro 64-bit, P4 w/ HT/ 8 Gbs RAM
We have an old DOS based data base that we have used for years. It ran fine in WIN XP and now we have two newer HP WIN 7 PRO 64-bit PCs that it runs on (with a small graphics window) but we also have two generic WIN 7 PRO 64-bit systems that it won't run at all on. I have tried "Compatibility mode" even though it was not needed on the HP systems. Any ideas out there in the ether?

Since MS-DOS programs are 16-bit, they don't run on 64-bit Windows. So the mystery is that you say the program runs on two Windows 64-bit systems. Are you absolutely sure that they are not running 32-bit Windows?

✔ Best Answer
If you are running WIn7 Pro, download the WinXP mode, and try running your application from that

Thanks for the help people. As it turns out the two PCs that this program worked on WERE 32-bit systems so ijack was correct AND I loaded XPMode on the newer 64-bit systems as Razor2.3 suggested and although it is slow due to the layers of software, it does run. I wish I could select both responses as "best answer".

You also could try vDos (http://schaars.nl/vDos.7z).
It originated from DOSbox and was modified to run serious DOS bussiness applications like database programs.
It will start 100 times quicker than XPmode, I don't know if your program will run faster.
