Specs: Windows Vista
My laptop is getting slower and I wondered if it would be better to run windows 7 instead but I don't know if I should remove vista before installing 7.

You can upgrade. I think you put the disk in the computer while vista is running.

When upgrading you need to verify the version you are installing will work. If your Vista is 32-bit you can't upgrade to 64-bit versions. If your Vista is Business you can't use a copy of Win 7 Home.

You might check the hardware such as the hard drive to make sure the drive is not failing and is the source of the slowdowns.

Win 7 does work faster on systems that are not maxed for hardware such as having only 2GB of RAM.

I had a laptop that had 2GB and was slow with Vista Business and after installing Win 7 Pro it ran faster.
