DNS internet connection Windows 7

September 15, 2010 at 00:42:34
Specs: Windows 7
I have a Sony Vaio and Windows 7 and just got Sky internet. I am fully connected to the internet and I spoke to Sky and they said all is well but my browsers - both Mozilla and Explorer won't work - they just say there is a problem connecting to the DNS server...

I also have McAfee security.

I have read the answers on the site but I am not techy and don't understand most of them - would anyone be able to give me an idiot's guide to resolving this problem?

Many thanks,

The answer they gave you doesn't make sense.

DNS controls your internet.. so if something is wrong with your DNS then your internet as a whole would not work.

However, depending on your provider.. there might be some proxy information your missing. Internet Service Providers (TimeWarner, Comcast, etc), often use proxies to segregate different types of internet connections. Call up your internet service provider and ask about proxy information.

If your DNS servers work, you should be able to use this nslookup tool to resolve domain names. If it doesn't resolve domain names correctly, you could try to configure following free DNS servers provided by Google on computer, after that try again.

Hope this helps.

change your IPV4 dns to and these are free dns servers, they work 100% and are pretty damn fast..if these do not work then your problem is somewhere else..

and switch off your mcaffee while you try...then uninstall it, and use the windows firewall and ms security essentials, your life will be easier ;-) (last bit is a personal opinion)

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
