Specs: Windows XP
I have a windows 7 computer it is an acer laptop I cannot get to f8or f2 set up.or f12 I could at one point get to the desk top on occasion but now I cannot do anything with the key board as far as being able to hit enter or access the repair launch and when I did get to that screen on one occasion I think by chance and the menu asked if I wanted to restore my computer back to an earlier time and I could not get the restore button to press it kept going back and forth between restore and cancel? is there a disk that can at least boot to the desk top so that I don't have to lose my files?

however this sounds like you may have an hardware issue, try it anyway, if it fails to allow you to type, try another keyboard ..

also check that a memory module is not loose or failing, by removing the cover on the bottom of the laptop and removing the memory, then replace 1 stick, try the machine, try the same stick in each slot, then do the same with the other modules.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

Just to add.... Yes you CAN use a USB keyboard and mouse on your laptop. It is a VERY good way to see if your keyboard is gone or the plug has dislodged and possibly begin your repair.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Not all systems will boot to a usb keyboard. You can borrow one from a friend maybe just to try. Most cases it will work but few just will not.

You shouldn't lose data because of a faulty keyboard.
