February 9, 2012 at 09:10:29
Specs: Windows 7, i3 2.13GHz/ 4GB
I want to use disk defregmenter on my laptop. It does open showing all the disks. However if I select a disk and push analyze or deframent it simply does nothing... no matter which disk I select. I have windows 7 64 bits.

It could be another program that is preventing defrag from running properly. Security software such as antivirus software could have drive protection mechanisms that will prevent the access to the drive that the defrag program needs.

Options:
- An exception can be made in the security software
- temporarily disable security software using services applet and try defrag again. Don't surf the web with your security software disabled.
- try restarting in safe mode and run defrag.

The grass may not be greener on the other side but might have less weeds...

How much free space do you have on that partition? List the total size and free space.

go to a command prompt [right mouse click and choose run as administrator]
type chkdsk /r and hit enter
answer yes to the question
exit
reboot so check disk runs
do this for each partition on your drive.

This will check for disk and file corruption
