disable -on and -off folder options

May 2, 2011 at 17:02:50
Specs: Windows 7, n/a
How do I disable the "-ON" and "-OFF" which appends itself to each option in (Folder options -> View -> Advanced settings) for Windows 7. I am familiar with using the registry, but would also like to know where to find this option normally.
for example:
"Hide extensions for known file types-ON"
used to be just,
"Hide extensions for known file types"

***EDIT***
Well that's bloody bizarre, it went away as soon as it appeared. I would still appreciate an answer regarding where this option is, for future reference.

I've never seen the ON or OFF in Folder Options. It's always been like the
example you have shown.

"Hide extensions for known file types"

Either with a check mark in the square box or without.

My schools' computers have them on by default.
It keeps showing up and disappearing, seemingly at random for some reason. I just re-installed my OS so maybe its being turned on? Now it's back on, it was off earlier.

It's kind of annoying, I have had difficult searching for this issue on search engines, so I came here.

The Magnifier, it seems to show up if you are using the Magnifier. Goes away when you close Magnifier, try it and see. I still think there is an option or registry tweak somewhere in the system for this.

I found the same results as you did. The magnigier also rearranged
my Desktop Icons.
