A silent install just means you don't have to sit at the computer and answer questions. Normal installs require you to answer yes or no, put in a serial number and other things.

The silent install is usually used in corporate environments where many computers have to have the same program installed and some one can't be running from computer to computer to answer the same questions on each one. So file is written in a format usually prescribed in a "silent install file" and the program looks to this text file for answers to the questions.

Very simple process usually although some text files can be written to call other files so they can branch out.

But for most purposes, the silent install lets one or several people upgrade or install a program to many computers without having to run back and forth between them.

Can also be done over a network.

Part of the inhumanity of the computer is that, once it is competently programmed and working smoothly, it is completely honest.
