desktop document icons won't delete

April 7, 2011 at 15:35:19
Specs: Windows 7, dual core/ 2 GB
I have an dozen word, excel, ppt documents (icons) on my desktop. I can't delete them. The documents are valid, and will open with their respective programs.

I've tried:

- drag icons to recycle bin and empty
- drag icons to recycle bin and run CC Cleaner
- refresh screen
- go into safe mode and drag to recycle bin and empty

Like a bad dream, they keep coming back.

Any ideas?

Do you mean that they go into the bin and are no longer on the desktop, then come back on reboot? Or won't they go into the bin?

Please come back and let us know how you got on.

they do go into the recycle bin. they seem to 'empty', but just re-appear.

a re-boot isn't even necessary for the docs to appear-- sometimes they come back overnight...

I doubt it will help me but were they actual documents or just shortcuts to documents?

About the only wild suggestions I can make are as follows:

Try deleting them with a freebie called "Move on boot" (which is really for files that won't delete when Windows is running).

You could try using DOS commands to delete them.

I'm wondering if it is some obscure Recycle bin issue. Neither of the above would put files in the bin so it could at least fix things this once. Even so, it is hard to imagine what prompts your bin to restore files. Maybe your mouse goes walkies at night and turns out the bin LOL.
