Data transfer rate is very, very slow

August 14, 2013 at 02:52:10
Specs: Windows XP
The rate of Data Transfer either from my laptop to USB pen drive or CD drive is very very slow. In the starting of 5 to 10 seconds, the rate of data transfer is around 3 to 4 MB/sec but after few seconds the rate of data transfer becomes gradually decreases and comes to around 550 KB/sec.
A 3.0 GB data file takes around 1.50 hours time copy transfer from laptop to CD drive.
I am not able to take the backup of my laptop into the CD drive or pen drive because it will take more than 10 hours.
Except this problem, my laptop is working fine.

Pl. suggest me how to improve the rate of data transfer rate in my laptop.

Hi abhayjain,

Please perform a clean boot to ensure that the issue is not because of a third party application running in the background.

Refer to the link mentioned below to perform clean boot:

Also, you may try performing SFC Scan to check the system.

Try performing virus scan using the antivirus installed on the system.

Thanks & Regards

You didn't provide any specs or the make/model of your laptop. Does it support USB1.1, 2.0, or 3.0? Is the flash drive USB1.1, 2.0, or 3.0? Have you updated the motherboard chipset/USB drivers?

Try doing a thorough system cleaning. Also, make sure to blow the dust out of the cooling vents.
