Either the disk is copy protected or your drive is having problems reading the disk. I've got two LG DVD readers - one can read just about anything and the other struggles - it seems a bit of hit & miss to find one that works all of the time.

Why not save them to the HD and then burn them?

Slow down burn speed. I agree, it may have copy guard on it.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Clean out the lens, or change the dvds.
