some cheap options are:
1- USB dock
http://www.google.com/products/cata...
2- SATA/PATA/IDE Drive to USB 2.0 Adapter Converter Cable
http://www.google.com/products/cata...

You don't need a linux disc for that

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

I'd see if it would boot to a live linux/windows cd or live usb.

Almost all newer linux distro's offer a live cd and usb. You can make a BartsPE cd/usb or VistaPE cd or usb.

Did you try an external monitor? Most likely the computer is not starting up but it is possible something happened to your graphics chip.

Do you see any video when you first start the laptop?

Your post is contradictory. Either Windows is corrupted or you have a hardware problem.

If the drive is SATA and you have a desktop that takes SATA drives, just plug it in with Data cable and power cable (leave on top of machine) as if it were a second internal hard drive and off load data to the desktop machine.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
