Specs: Windows 7
I purchased a computer from a friend, I got a message saying operating system not found, what steps can I take before calling technical support?

Ask your friend if he/she 'wiped' Windows off the drive before selling it to you, because the error message indicates that the OS has been removed.

Your friend may have wiped the drive to stop their personal data being looked at, but they may also have removed the operating system without realising it.

check the manual and see if there is a hidden partition that you can boot to IF they didn't change the HD....But to me it sounds like the previous owner may even have changed out the HD....in that case you will need an installation DVD but you can use the number on the certificate sticker to reload and activate the OS....good luck.
