computer screen changing colors during start up, not booting

Dell INSPIRON

Specs: Windows 7, 3.00 GB
When I turned on the Laptop(DELL), the monitor started changing colors (red to yellow, yellow to green...). I detached the battery and connected it back which solved the problem and started the boot up.
Is there any defect in my Laptop that must be taken care.
Also, a few days back a message popped up during start up saying " One of your disks needs to be checked...". Is it anyway related to the issue.

Have you inserted the battery again to see if the problem reappears?

Thanks for reply but I intended to solve the problem by removing the battery... which worked(temporarily). I neither know the reason for the problem nor the solution.

If the " One of your disks needs to be checked..." message was due to an improper shutdown (suddenly removed from power), then it's unlikely to have caused your problem. If, however, it's due to a failing HDD, then it could be possible. Nonetheless, back-up your data and run a HDD diagnostic on the drive just to be sure...
