Computer running much slower

December 23, 2011 at 06:04:02
Specs: Windows 7
My computer has been running much slower then normal lately, I have an Alienware m15x so it usually runs at a very high speed. I have done things like runing Adaware programs and Malware scanners. Any other ideas to what could possibly be slowing it down so much all of a sudden. It has done this before in the past and it went back to its normal speed but it seems annoying that I would just have to wait it out for it to run at normal speed again.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Turn off indexing service for all the hard disks and/or partitions.

Click Computer and then right-click the hard disk drives. Click Properties and uncheck the boxes that read "Index my drive for faster searches" or similar wording ( My Windows OS is not English ). Click Apply or O.K.

Overheating will slow it down, too many garbage apps loading at startup & running in the background will slow it down, lack of routine maintenance (dumping temps files, purging internet cache, defragging, etc) will slow it down, using a crappy anti-virus such as Norton or McAfee will slow it down, etc, etc. Posting your system specs would be very helpful.

He stated "Alienware m15x" which is a Dell gaming system.
Do these:
Clean out your browser (History, Cookies, Temp Internet Files, etc.).
If you use Norton or McAfee, uninstall and use something better like Avast (free version) or Webroot (free trial only).
Uninstall programs you never use.
Empty Recycle Bin.
Run Disk Clean up.
Open Run box, type msconfig.exe and OK. Go to start tab and uncheck all except Microsoft and your antivirus program, Apply and restart your machine.

If you still have problems install Speedfan or similar and monitor your internal temperatures and report back the numbers.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
