computer only starts if power left on

March 13, 2011 at 08:09:30
Specs: Windows 7
My computer will only start up if the power to it is turned on for a few minutes first.
It will then run happily all day and turn off ok.
I realize I could just leave the power on but as this has never happened to any of my other computers I am worried it could be a sign of bad things to come
Thanks

A desktop or a laptop? If a laptop then I would hazard a guess that your battery is shot.

Odd. I'd guess at a PSU problem, but I've never seen anything like it.

The power supply could be going, it sounds like the capacitors in the filtering circuit are charging slowly. If this has always been, it MAY be normal, but it does sound unusual. I believe most of us leave the power to our systems normally plugged in, and turn on with the on button only, but I have not run across it even after many unplugs for servicing on a number of systems.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
