Specs: Windows 7, 2.7 dualcore
I have a Pentium dual core E5400 @270ghz. Ecs G41T-M motherboard running on windows 7 Professional 32-bit. But as soon as I put a cd or dvd in the dvd writer the computer restarts. I format and reinstalled everything. Updated my display card. Tried another kind of dvd writer. But still the same. But if I plug the usb external writer in it works perfect. Please help

Try disconnecting its data cable but leave the power cable connected. Then start up the computer. Put a disk in the drive--I think it'll still spin up--and see what happens. If it still reboots it could be your power supply or some internal problem with the drive. If it doesn't reboot it must be a SATA problem--the cable, cable connection or the motherboard. In that case you may have to stick with using the external drive or try an add-on SATA card and connect the drive there.

What exact error messages do you get?

I highly doubt that this is hardware related, though I've no clue what program would be doing this...

Have you recently run a scan for malware:

What exactly is on the CD?

This happens after a fresh install and swapping in a different optical drive?

Doesn't seem likely but could it be a power issue--maybe the drive spinning up is too much? Is the USB drive that works powered through the port or does it have a separate power supply?

Another possibility is the drive's cables. You might try a different data and power cable, if available.

It doesn't matter what cd I put in music or data it does the same. I did a virus scan and fomat and reinstall windows. Because I thought it could be a file missing or a virus. It still does the same. The only programs on it now is windows and drivers and virus program. The usb writer does not have a power supply just usb. And I have tried different sata cables swopping but still the same.

Yes it still restarts even if I'm in the bios. Will try to get a new power supply and test that. Thanks
