I am getting a blue screen but before I can get the information written down Windows reboots. The there is a message that "Windows closed unexpectedly and Windows will tell you what caused it if it can" or some such message. Do you think doing Scandisk for the hard disk would cure this problem? Or is it hardware? TIA

It could be hardware or software.

If you can keep Windows running long enough, go here:

Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings

Click Settings in the Startup & Recovery section.

UNtick Automatically restart then click "OK" on all dialog boxes to close them.

Now next time your PC gives you a BSOD it will stay on-screen for you to read and write it down, especially the error/stop code and/or an error statement in upper-case.

If you manage it the first string of numbers is particularly important. If it happens to mention a file name then that is useful too.,

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
