Computer froze, then not booting

December 13, 2010 at 12:55:55
Specs: Windows 7, Intel Quad Core/4gb
Today I dropped something on the floor next to my computer while it was on. Suddenly, my computer froze up completely (even my mouse wouldn't move). Now, when I try to turn it on, it seems to be working fine, but the monitor doesn't even flinch, just goes into sleep mode.

My computer's side panel has been opened for a few months now and I'm using a lower power supply than the recommended for my video card, but I don't think any of those would mess up if bumped.

Anything that may explain the problem or that could've come out when bumped would be very useful

Thanks for your time,
Chris.

did you drop something and then bump the machine? was it a hard bump?

do you see the post messages?

first check that all your cables, disks, drives, power etc are secured correctly.

tap f8 and try VGA mode

try another monitor cable, and another monitor.

try another video card, im sure someone you know has an old one laying around.

if you dropped 1 thing around an open case you could have dropped anything inside without knowing,
blow out any dust etc.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
