Specs: Windows vista
My hard drive crashed on my HP running windows vista. I had just bought the upgrade disk in hopes of fixing some software issues. Now I need a new drive. How do I install windows 7 on a new drive with an upgrade version of Windows 7?

There is a way to do this but first this question ...

Do you have a valid qualifying previous version of Windows Installation disc to use a Upgrade Windows 7? Be aware that Preinstalled Windows versions do not qualify.

Read This:
As per Microsoft answers, you do qualify for using upgrade purchase as long as you have the original COA sticker on your computer. If needed you MAY need to enter information from this sticker either during the install or later during activation (online).
You can however since you are purchasing a new hard drive, also use an OEM version, but with the upgrade, you still get the support from microsoft if you need it, and with the OEM version you do not.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.
