See if this helps...

Once IE is back to the begining... you can rebuild/reset your personalised options for it?

Since we've no idea what happened best bet is to do a System Restore to the day before your child experimented. Just type System Restore in Search then click on it and follow the procedure. It will not touch your personal files. Sit back until it comes back and settles down before checking it out.

EDIT:
I overlapped with trvlr. Many ways to crack the nut.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Open Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, click the Reset button, then reboot your computer.

"now i cant access any of my password proted sites"

If you had the usernames & passwords stored so that you didn't have to re-enter them each time you returned to a site, they may have been wiped out by whatever your child did. You will have to visit each site, enter your name/password manually, then store them again.

In the future, I think there's a utility that lets you save lots of settings, configurations, usernames & passwords -- I don't remember the names.
There is an old fashion way involving copying certain folders to another place. would that be of interest for the future, going forward?
