Does Laplink's PC Mover work safely? I need to move from a Toshiba notebook (win 7) to a new Dell 3350. A friend recommended pcmover but reading reviews I am undecided?

I never heard of that utility. Sounds great, if it works. One thing to note is that programs bundled with the original laptop probably won't migrate even if this utility works.

I don't see the need myself. For best results you should re-install your third party programs to the new computer.

Windows 7 backup and restore should be able to transfer all your personal files.

Out of curiosity, why are you doing the change?

PC Mover worked very well, only problem was office 07 but was resolved easily with reinstall. All other files, programs, favorites, desktop etc transferred seamlessly. Quite pleased with the result.

I did this for 2 reasons, first I need a faster machine capable of multitasking several programs, second I will use the Toshiba for out of the office. I do not have space @ office (home) for a desktop and really prefer the options a laptop provides.
