Solved Change Windows 8 to 7. can this be done free

Specs: Windows 7
I have a Windows 8 which came with my new Gateway computer. Nether which are worth the powder to blow them up. I would like to have Windows 7 Free. Any suggestions? <removed>@gmail.com

If you bought it with Windows 8.1 Pro you have downgrade rights to Windows 7 Professional. You just would install Windows 7 Professional and then call Microsoft and tell them you want to exercise your downgrade rights to Windows 7. But if you bought the machine with regular Windows 8.1, you don't have any free downgrade rights, unfortunately.

Windows 8 is a good system, just takes a bit of getting used to that's all.

If it is the lack of the old style startup menu that is the issue then you can always add it with the "Classic Shell" freebie. Alternatively, so it seems, MS will be adding back something similar to the old start menu within the next few months.

If you prefer the desktop to the Metro screen then you can boot direct to it. Any icon you want can be added to the desktop, including Libraries, Documents and so forth.
