Solved Change Windows 7 PC from workgroup back to domain

August 24, 2015 at 03:26:40
Specs: Windows 7
I am running Windows 7 and changed domain to workgroup. But when I immediately tried to change back to domain it gives following error
"An Active directory domain controller for the domain "my domain name" could not be contacted.

I guess I would have to connect to my companies Wifi to access the same but I am in remote location.

Will a system restore help. I haven't yet restarted my computer after domain change

You'll need to be a Domain Administrator on your company's network to do this (presuming they have set up sensible security). Talk to your IT staff.

✔ Best Answer
First, you have to be a Domain Administrator. Go to Control Panel, System, Change Settings,Change, click the Domain button, enter the domain name (xxxx.local, where x is the domain name), the click ok, enter Domain Administrator password, Ok, message that your computer successfully joined the Domain appears, then click ok, and you will be asked to restart the computer. When you reboot, your computer will be in the Domain.
