CDFS CD looks on W7 as empty

April 11, 2012 at 21:44:15
Specs: Windows 7 SP1, HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Mini Tower
CDFS CD looks on W7 as empty.
There appears a suggestion to write some files on this disc or to format this disc.
This very disc is visible on WХP SP3 machine (files are visible and readable).
On the other hand if CD is written UDFS, all files are visible and readable via the same CD/DVD drive on the above W7 machine.
Furthermore, using a program CDBurnerXP it is possible to make a copy of CDFS CD via the same drive
on W7 machine, and this copy is not readable either.
It's clear that W7 machine doesn't want to read CDFS CD.
How to make W7 machine read CDFS CD?

It's data CD conaining some PDF-files, other files. And it's made in CDFS file system.
I know that there is a service CDFS to read such CD's, but this service is i a stopped
state and refuses to be started. There shold be perhaps some registry settings to
start this service and I tryed some but in vain!

"I know that there is a service CDFS to read such CD's"

CDFS stands for Compact Disc File System. It is the standard format that all CD's are written in. There is no special service that needs to be started, nor do you need to be messing around in the registry..

If the disc isn't being read on your Win 7 system, it sounds like your CD drive is going bad.

Hello!
Thank you for paing attention/

I know quite well that CDFS stands for Compact Disc File System.
But the matter is this service (cdfs.sys) refuses to start!
I tryed to change cdfs settings in registry:
HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cdfs
Start changed to 2 or 1 instead of usual 4
and after this attempt (with due restart of a computer) made it back.
It didn't help althow some people wrote it worked in their cases.
The service is in a stopped state. Trying to start leads to fail with a message:
"Service cannot be started because it is disabled or there is no enabled devices assotiated with it"

Drive is healthy because it works fine with CD UDFS.
The burning CD/DVD programs (ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP) enable to make CD CDFS disks copies and images.

So something is wrong in CD CDFS driver settings.
Best regards,
would greatly appretiate any reasonable suggestion.

Try a restore point when CDFS was working.
