CD/DVD drive stopped working

May 13, 2011 at 13:45:57
Specs: Windows 7
Toshiba Satellite laptop
Windows 7

Everything was working fine and then suddenly when turning on my computer I get a hardware error message staying that it can't detect the hardware that is connected to ATI 0. My cd/dvd player will power-up but nothing plays. It is not listed in My Computer and I can't find it in device manager.

I bought a new one and replaced this one only to have the same error message.

I've tried the registry fix that was posted all over involving deleting upper and lower filters, but those filters aren't listed in my registry. I've deleted/uninstalled both of the ATI 0 and the ATI 1 and rebooted but it doesn't work.

I've tried booting from drive and it boots fine.

Any suggestions?

What is ati?

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
