Specs: Windows 7
Ive tried everything in the book to unmute Skype, very annoying & nobody seems to have the answers, the only thing I can think of is ive downloaded a software which has affected this,..the only thing Ive downloaded recently is VLC media player, Ive uninstalled that, & Ive been using recently a external DVD writer...........there must be some way, Im very dissapointed with the Skype forums who don't seem to give any help or support with this

If, as I assume, your mic is only a problem when on Skype then you would be better off asking the Skype forum - there's sure to be one if you google for it.

As the previous poster thought it might have been a virus there is no harm running your AV scans. You could also run MalwareBytes freebie which can often find things that AV's miss. However I find it hard to believe a virus would cause these symptoms.

Please come back and let us know how you got on.

try your Echo sound test service, i know its an obvious answer, but start from there,.....even though it has a slash through the mike icon , it may still work , give that a go first.

I have the same problem of being unable to unmute the internal mic in my laptop. The laptop came with Win7 on it. I called the test number, and sure enough, it had the message that if I heard it, something was wrong with my computer. When in Skype, going to the options, audio settings, I can see the "thermometer" showing it is picking up the sound on the mic. But I still can't unmute it. Google brought me here as there is apparently no discussion in Skype forums. I have VLC media player on my computer as well, but it was loaded in long before I subscribed to Skype. I have kept my Skype program updated, so have nothing else to try. Any suggestions?

Just curious. Does the mic work in other situations or is it just Skype?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
