Can't send E-Mail

Specs: Win 7, 3.06Ghz Dual Core
Wife has been unable to send e-mail for a week or two, just told me. E-Mails are being received fine.

Getting message: "An unknown error has occurred" and Windows Live Mail error number: 0x80070057. And restates the port no, etc.

Google search got a lot of download and buy programs. One site suggested AV problem. (OEM McAfee Installation on computer). Tried turning off firewall in McAfee with no effect. Tried "Restoring Defaults." Also no effect. Unable to find place to disable/enable McAfee altogether.

Would like to remove McAfee and install Avast but afraid to do so because if I can't send E-Mails would not be able to get the activation code for Avast.

Suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

i understand that message is referring to an email that is stuck in the outbox. See if that's the case.

Yes, it appears you are right. I deleted all of her outbox e-mails and it appears that news ones are going out.

Thanks again.
