Cant locate downloaded photos...what and where is os-c drive

Specs: Windows 7
Ive downloaded some of my iphone and Nikpn photos on to my computer. Now my problem is that I can't locate them consistantly they seem to appear on my os=c drive(what is that?). How can I find my photos without deleting them(as soon as I download they are erased from the machine they cam from)...........Help please!!!!!!

Your C: drive is the hard drive where Windows is installed, and this drive also contains a default folder for Documents, and one for Pictures. If you've transferred pictures to your PC using proprietary software (not a good idea in my view) they should be in your Pictures folder:

Click the Windows "Start" orb at extreme bottom-left, then click "Pictures" in the right-hand pane - this will open your "Pictures" folder.

In future when transferring pictures, buy a card reader and put your memory-cards into that. You can then see what's on the card (in thumbnails) and copy/paste or drag-and-drop them into any folder you choose so you know for sure where they are.

Put a different memory card in your camera. Take a photo and then see what the picture name is. The search on your computer for that name minus 1 so if it is img_0596.jpg just search for img_0595.jpg. If it is found then you know where they all are now.

If not then you will need to download something like ZAR (free for memory cards) and use it to recover the images from your memory card.
