I've had this gigaware optical mouse for less
than a month. this morning it worked. Then I
turned my computer off and restarted it later in
the day and now my computer says "USB
device not recognized" I didnt change anything
on my computer. No updates were installed. I
dont understand why it's not working anymore.

Dunno. It might show up in event logs. Standby and hibernate are difficult to diagnose if you used it.

Did you try to unplug and re-plug it in?

Also there have been some issues with keyboard and mouse connections that are plugged into USB ports that are other than the rear ports directly on the motherboard. If you are plugging it into a front port, a side-of-keyboard port, a side-of-monitor port, an expansion card, or any hub, your problem COULD lie there. If so, plug into a rear port, and restart.
