Specs: Windows 7
Hi all I've got in big trouble.
I downloaded a file but it wouldn't open so i saw a tab somewhere above that said open, I clicked on it searched for the .exe file i needed it to open with and since i did that every file opened with that causing a lot of errors. I changed it to something else and now everytime I open a file it sais this:
C:\program files\micrososft office\office12\POWERPNT.EXE is not a valid win32-application
I really need help on this one

exe files shouldn't need any special program to open.

That said, you should be very careful downloading and opening ANY file with an exe extension. Exe stands for Executable. Which means it can run be itself just by opening it.

Now back to your current problem. What is the name of the file you can't open?

septus10, Go to the link below and download and run the EXE file association fix. Instructions are on the page. It should correct your problem.

septus10, Have you run any virus/malware scans? You could try atarting your computer in SAFE mode then run that registry fix. You could try a System Restore to a date just prior to when this problem started.

Edited to add: Disregard this reply as it looks like the problem has been fixed.

I am having a very similar problem except that only one exe file won't run. I have had this happen in the past as well but at that time multiple exe files woouldn't run, but I have never had the problem with all of them not working. I have tried the exe fix which seems to be the only solution that I have even found on the internet for exe files not running. I am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions other than one that involves the registry. I am running windows vista home premium.
