Can't get to Advanced Boot Menu to do a resto

September 15, 2011 at 20:00:51
Specs: Windows 7
I got a new dell xps latop. I was trying to transfer form old to new. In the process, I evidently corrupted the OS and now I get "NTLDR is missing, press ctrl-alt-del to restart" message. I cannot get a boot disc to work, I cannot get F8 to work, and I really don't want to deal with tech support. Any ideas?

Are you tapping F8 repeatedly during start up until you get a clicking or beep?
You can use repair disk or restore disk to do a start up repair.
You can order recovery disk from Dell or make repair disk from another W7 machine of same type (32bit or 64bit).
If this was preinstalled Windows 7 then you can use the Factory Restore feature to restore your machine to as shipped condition (see manual) but you will need a back up of your files since they will be wiped out (use Live Linux disk to save your files off hard drive before proceeding).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
