Can't access PC on network

Ultimate Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
July 14, 2010 at 23:39:55
Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Core i7/ 6Gb
I have two computers on my network, and yesterday the XP laptop was able to see the Win7 desktop to access and play media files. Today, when I double click the desktop's icon after drilling down through "My Network Places," it asks me for a username and password, which I did NOT set up overnight, nor have I changed workgroups, messed with my router or anything else. What's going on here?

Many thanks,
Eric

Maybe you accidentally enabled password protected file sharing in Windows 7. Take a look on this simple file sharing and password protected file sharing articles, hope able to help you.

After you get it working, consider putting a shortcut to the files you share on the respective desktops to make access easier.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.
