I could be wrong but I believe that Win 7 PCs are limited to networking (file sharing) with other Win 7 PCs only.

I just recently started using windows 7 myself, but I have learned a few things about it's networking (reading and trial and error) ... Windows 7 Home Premium can network 2 ways. Homegroup is only for windows 7 computers networked together and Xp computers are exempt. The second way is for you to 'join a home or small office network'.... This one will allow other operating systems to be networked. I have been partial successful in this. I have been able to see the entire network from my windows 7 machine and access shared files on windows XP and windows vista, but while I have been able to see shared resources on the windows 7 machine, I have not been successful yet at being authorized access. I have not given up yet, I'll wait until I have the time and ambition to wrestle with it again.
