Downloaded the driver, shows in the control panel. If I try to scan something, the scanner starts. If I try to print something, the print dialog box displays, but when, "print" is selected, nothing starts, and nothing appears in the print queue.
Windows 7 64bit - usb connected to back port and same cable successfully prints using a surface tablet, but not on this computer.
In the "Print" dialog-box, make sure you select your Canon printer before clicking "Print" as the default may be set to "Print to file" or some other option.
Was it working before you installed the driver or is the printer new? Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Then check in Devices and Printers to see if more than one instance of the printer is listed. If so, remove both and restart the computer. Windows should find the printer and install it.
Rather basic, perhaps pedantic I know - but... "Downloaded the driver, shows in the control panel" You did actually install the driver version you downloaded; and followed the instructions as per the idiot's guide (the manual) re' installing printer drivers?
And I'm not entirely sure I follows this: "Windows 7 64bit - usb connected to back port and same cable successfully prints using a surface tablet, but not on this computer."
- usb connected to back port means connected to a usb port on the printer, and not the computer in question?
Are you saying that the tablet prints OK when connected directly to the printer via a usb cable; or the tablet prints of when connected via the computer (the one to which you refer initially - not another computer) and thence the printer?
Print dialogue box indicates Canon MP490
It was working and still works on other computers, but not on this computer.
Only one instance in devices, selected as the default computer. Restarted (also tried a different USB port) and then restarted to get windows to recognize, same issue.
Thanks to everyone trying to help. "connected to the back port " refers to the back USB port of the problem computer - same usb cable connected to a Surface tablet was meant to eliminate the USB cable itself being the problem. Since it works connected to the Surface, but doesn't work on the problem computer, it doesn't seem likely that the cable is the issue.
Another clarification... You're not networking to this pronter when you try to print from the prpblem computer; but are conecting directly to the pronter via a usb port? And if a usb port... have you tried printing usng rhe same port and cable as used with the tablet?
No not networking.. Yes same USB cable pulled from the back of the problem computer works when connected to the surface tablet
Much along the line of OtH earlier... perhaps remove the printer entirely - as uninstall it - and then re-install as per the the standard (?) Canon approach; which is connect directly to the printer with a usb cable and run the setup routine...? In-case you don't have the full manual... this is a link to a download:
Incidentally can you access and print a test page via the printer options and supplies; or whatever it's celled on windows installations. I'm on a Mac so things may be slightly different in terms of names and what's where... compared to windows?
