Solved Cannot open eml files

Dell / Vostro 400
July 25, 2013 at 06:29:22
Specs: Windows 7, 2.394 GHz / 1022 MB
When I save an email, I cannot open it in the saved location. There is a notice: 'Windows cannot open this file. To open this file windows
needs to know what program you want to use to open it ' etc. According to System Mechanic and Microsoft Security Essentials there is no infection present.

1. Confirm that you know from whom you received the email with the file with the EML file extension. These files are associated with viruses that can harm your computer.
2. It's rare to run across a stand-alone .EML file. Email programs create the files whenever you choose to forward a message as an attachment rather than including the original text in the body of the forwarded email. As such, .EML files are typically connected to a message you receive in your inbox. If you do stumble across a stand-alone .EML file, you have a few different options. The easiest thing to do would be to try to open it with an email program, but if you don't have one, you can reclassify the file's extension and open it in a Web browser. I.E. make it a .doc file or some other type you can open BEFORE saving. M$ issued a ‘fix’ in an update several years ago. You may need to visit their site to get up to date.

If, as you said, it is an email that you saved, then it needs associating with your email program for it to open from a file. Let us know what email program you are using and we should be able to help. Was it a sent or received email?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Many thanks, Manshu S. That worked. Sorry about belated acknowledgement - I'm disorganised.
