Which email client have you installed; WIndows live, Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird etc?

Does it work with other email providers (I assume you have more than one, eg; Hotmail, AOL?)?

Without knowing the full details, I am thinking...
The most likely cause for your problem:
Unless you have a paid-for, Yahoo-Plus account, Yahoo may not allow you to use email software to access this.
You can only access free Yahoo accounts via your web browser.
This is the case with my own account. Access is blocked if attempting to set this up within Thunderbird or Outlook.

The only exception I know of: If you were lucky enough to get one of the free yahoo, 'Ymail' addresses, when they were offering this a while back - this works ok.
It works for my wife as she has 'free' Ymail working in Outlook and Thunderbird on different PCs. Other free yahoo accounts refuse to play ball.
