Hi to all,

Probably due to a visit to an internet site, I currently have some commercial popup windows coming up on a regular basis (they even start Internet Explorer if not open...).

How can I detect and kill this nuisance ? standard IE options are completely ineffective.

I am using IE9 under Windows 7 ( 64 bits).

Many thanks in advance for your help - Claude.

✔ Best Answer
First look at the startup tab in msconfig. Uncheck anything that doesn't need to be loaded into memory at boot time. You'll be surprised how much isn't needed.

If that doesn't help, use the task manager to identify any unwanted processes.

If all that fails, you'll need to search the registry.

you are infected with malware
update your antivirus anti spyware software and run them to remove the infection.

Hi guapo,

Actually, I had yesterday the idea of checking the entries of my msconfig startup entries and deleted a number of items which I found irrelevant.

Apparently, those popup windows don't seem to come up again, but I don't know whether this is due to my cleanig or not...

Many thanks for your mail, Claude

Hi wanderer,

my antivirus is updated automatically every day, so it shoud be OK now if the problem had to do with malware.

Thanks for your interest in my problem - Claude

If they come back again run anti malware from malwarebytes.org or combo fix.
