cannot detect inbuilt webcam on Samsung r530

Samsung R530 notebook

Specs: Windows 7
Hi,
I'm trying to use the web-cam to skype a friend but cannot locate it on the laptop. I have tried rebooting laptop, couldn't do a system restore as there was no previous point to restore it to (its not a new laptop I just don't have any points created). For some reason the driver has been deleted/is missing and when I download one from the Samsung support website and run installation it kind of says its installing and then nothing happens after that (the driver says for Win XP and I am running Win 7 so maybe that is why however there are no other drivers on the website). I then try to click set up but it says it cannot detect a web-cam.
Is there any way of disabling web-cams on Samsung r530? I can't remember if I disabled it on this laptop or my previous one. Basically I have no clue how to fix this so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Oh and the web cam is not listed in device manager, or anywhere else that I can find really...

First off, no Windows XP driver will work on Windows 7, no way.

The webcam can be disabled in Device Manager, but it should still be listed their, disabled or not. if it's not listed, not even listed as an "Unknown Device", that means the webcam is faulty and Windows can no longer detect it.

Easiest fix is to buy an external webcam.

Note: If Samsung don't have any Windows 7 drivers for the R530 you shouldn't be running Windows 7 on it. However, my research suggests that the R530 leaves the factory with Windows 7 pre-installed, so there must be Windows 7 drivers for it on the Samsung website. It doesn't make sense if there are none. Check again.

I really get a chuckle out of our helpers that don't realize that there is a troubleshooting compatibility that can be run in Administrator mode. I use loads of programs from win xp on my windows 7 PC......

Phil22:
I was following advice I had found on another website given to someone with a similar issue and the same laptop/OS... it worked for them just not for me.

The webcam is not listed anywhere in device manager - any ideas why my laptop can no longer detect it? It worked fine before, however I had my screen replaced a few months ago due to a crack in the lower left corner - any chance this could have had anything to do with it? Any ideas on how to fix this? I didn't really want to use an external webcam.

Also no there are no Windows 7 drivers for the R530 on the Samsung website - as far as I can tell many people in similar circumstances also fail to locate Windows 7 drivers for this laptop. If they do exist then they are very well hidden, agreed it doesn't make sense but feel free to search yourself. I would be very grateful if you managed to locate the drivers which I spent hours searching for myself and failed to find...

XpUser4Real:
I think that is probably what other users did, how do I do this myself? It could just be a case of needing to reinstall the driver and I'm not doing it correctly.
Other than this, have you any ideas of possible solutions to my problem?
